I refer to a letter by Joe Borg (Mosta) about the existent telephone directory.

I concur perfectly with what he wrote and feel that a new telephone directory is a must, hopefully this time it would include the new post codes. The latter would avoid unnecessary delay in delivery of letters which according to Maltapost, is because the post code is missing.

As also indicated in Mr Borg's letter, the last telephone directory was published in 2004 and the post code directory in 1991, also by far outdated. The situation is aggravated by the fact that lately new post codes were introduced. Not to mention extra payment if one has to call 1182 for assistance.

Besides, the 2004 Telephone Directory contained numerous mistakes, as was rightly pointed out by subscribers (including myself) in various letters to the press. Incidentally, one of these mistakes was an entry of mine.

When I moved house in April 2001, I completed the relevant forms for the transfer of my telephone number and for eventual correction in a new telephone directory. Lo and behold! When a new directory was published, my name was registered on my previous address and that of my husband, who had passed away in January 2001 (that is before I moved house) was registered in the new address. The irony of the situation is that my late husband never set foot in the new residence.

It is the duty of Maltapost to supply its customers with a necessary, adequate and accurate telephone directory and not keep dragging its feet year after year as is being done.
