The Department of Information is holding two photography competitions with the theme 'Impressions of the Maltese Islands'. The competitions, with a total prize money of €11,500, are open to professional and amateur photographers respectively.
Both competitions were launched this morning during a press conference addressed by Parliamentary Secretary for Consumers, Fair Competition, Local Councils and Public Dialogue Chris Said.
He said that through this initiative, the Department of Information is acting as a spur to get Maltese photographers, professionals and amateurs alike, to capture the beauty of whatever is Maltese and Gozitan. Submitted photographs have to portray images of the Maltese Islands and whatever is identifiably Maltese, including but not restricted to cultural and historical heritage; natural resources; folklore and tradition; food and drink; arts and crafts; and popular culture.
The photographs submitted for the competition for professional photographers, will be judged by a panel of judges. Judging will take into considerations the technical and the artistic aspects, and the conveying of the theme.
The entries for the competition for amateurs will be judged by a panel of judges (70 per cent) and by the general public (30 per cent). All photos will be uploaded on the DOI Facebook Wall by DOI Officials. The general public can vote through 'Facebook Likes' till the 31st of January 2012.
Entries submitted for the Professional competition must be presented at the Department of Information, between the 9th and 20th January 2012, at 3, Castille Place, Valletta,. Entries for the Amateur competition must be submitted via e-mail on doi.competitions@gov.mt by the 20th of January 2012.
The Professional Competition has a prize fund of €8,000 divided as follows:
1st Prize: €5000;
2nd Prize: €2000;
3rd Prize: €1000.
The Amateur Competition has a prize fund of €3,500 divided as follows:
1st Prize: €2000;
2nd Prize: €1000;
3rd Prize: €500.
