Tipico, a German gaming company based in Malta, is expected to double its workforce by the end of next year to over 200 employees. This was announced this morning during a visit by the Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi the company's offices at Portomaso.

Tipico started operations in Malta in 2004 with two employees and its headcount today exceeds 100 employees. The company is seeking to employ more Maltese workers over the coming particularly students from the University of Malta and MCAST.

In his comments, Dr Gonzi said that remote gaming was today a new pillar of the Maltese economy, accounting for over 5,500 jobs. This growth was not only based on the sound regulatory framework Malta offered but also thanks to the skilled workforce Malta had.
