The University's Islands and Small States Institute recently organised a series of training workshops spread over two weeks in Malta on 'Banking and Finance in Small States' and 'Competitiveness Strategies for Small States'. Around 20 senior and middle management officials in private and public sector institutions from countries in Africa, the Pacific, Caribbean, and Indian Ocean regions, attended the workshops, which have been organised on an annual basis since 2000 as part of the Malta-Commonwealth third country training programme.
