The National Commission, Persons with Disability, has filed judicial protests against two establishments, claiming that they did not have accessibility for people with special needs.

The protests were filed against Empire Cinema Complex of Bugibba and Tip Toes shoe shop at the Birkirkara Bypass.

The commission said it first raised the issue with Empire Cinema in March 2006 but no satisfactory solution had been achieved.

The commission said it had also complained repeatedly with the management of Tip Toes, most recently last April. In both cases, the main door was not accessible for people with special needs, the commission said.

It said these failures constituted discrimination against people with disabilities and it asked the two establishments to rectify matters.

The commission also said that a court case it had against Calypso Hotel in Gozo has been resolved outside court.
