The St Andrews Tennis School Participation Weekend in Comino took place over the last weekend of April, practically one year from the organisation's foundation.

The idea of Participation Day, on the occasion extended to a weekend, has been well received. This saw 68 juniors taking part and enjoying themselves in an active and social environment.

The juniors, whose ages ranged from the ages of four to 16 years, had an animated programme of activities geared up consisting of fun drills, games and a tournament.

Parents, meanwhile, played at a doubles team tournament which consisted of three matches each.

The inspiration of Participation Day was successful on this occasion too, putting the focus on participation rather than on winning.

"We had a fantastic weekend where the parents could watch their children play and the juniors enjoyed seeing their parents take part in the same event," remarked Claire Arrigo who together with her brother Chris Gatt runs the school at the Pembroke Rackets Tennis Club.

When the youngsters were not on the tennis courts other activities were taking place, like a treasure hunt set up around the island.

Again, this was a team event and every team won, thus stressing the concept of participation.

The Comino experience was sponsored by Next.
