Award-winning comic illustrator and writer and Wizards Keep founder Tim Perkins will be giving a workshop focusing on comic creation.

The workshop is being organised by Wicked Comics, the voluntary organisation behind the annual Malta Comic Con and local promoters of comic culture.

The workshop is aimed for all those who have ever aspired to create comics and who would like to learn more about the process from a creator who has done it all.

Participants will learn basic construction techniques that apply to character design and drawing in general to produce comic strips and graphic novels.

They will also learn how to create a concept from scratch, including characters, setting and plot, as well as about the key elements of storytelling.

Comic construction will also be tackled through planning rough thumbnails, looking at the many ways of laying a page, at dynamics within the panels and at what makes a cover works.

There will also be a lot to learn about incorporating logos and lettering, pencilling, inking and colouring techniques and how to tie everything together. The workshop will end with a question-and-answer session.

A regular guest at Malta Comic Con, Perkins is also well-known as a concept artist, designer and writer and is a regular lecturer on comics, storytelling and creativity. He is also the creator of the all-ages hit graphic novel The Worlds End Vol 1: The Riders on the Storm. Work is currently underway on the sequel.

The Malta Comic Con (MCC) is a two-day event which celebrates comic creators, comic books, books, movies, TV series, table top games, video games, role-playing games, cosplaying and virtually anything that is related to the comic culture.

The MCC is both entertaining and educational, featuring events specifically targeted for children and others intended for a more mature audience.

Once again, professional creators from all over the world will be exhibiting, signing comics, talking and sketching for fans, delivering workshops and taking part in discussion panels.

This year, the MCC will take place on November 30 and on December 1 at St James Cavalier, Valletta.

The workshop will take place on June 2 at St James Cavalier, Valletta, between 9am and 4pm. The fee is €35 per person and includes lunch. Bookings can be made by sending an e-mail to info@maltacomic-con.com. Booking deadline is May 30.
