Return home where you will be safe, Phyllis Stewart is appealing to her husband Tom, who has been missing for more than a year.
Ms Stewart believes her husband is still alive, and is appealing to him, or anyone who knows him to pass on her message: “Come home because you will be safe. I will not refer you to Mount Carmel Hospital. Come home to your brothers Billy and Peter, your sister Bernadette and step-daughter Michelle.”
Ms Stewart yesterday told this newspaper that “determined” Billy will be returning to Malta for the sixth time to look for his brother.
He will be accompanied by their sister Bernadette, who, like Mr Stewart’s step-daughter, has also flown to Malta looking for Mr Stewart.
Mr Stewart, 60, escaped from Mount Carmel Hospital, where he was admitted voluntarily in May last year, and his wife has not stopped looking for him since.
His identity documents and personal belongings are with Ms Stewart, who continues to hope he is somewhere on the island, probably being helped out by someone.

Her appeals have featured in the local media, and also on BBC’s online portal, in an article headlined: The mysterious case of the Briton missing in Malta. Ms Stewart has even offered a €1,000 reward to anyone with information that would lead to his whereabouts.
She is now being helped by Simon Owens, who is looking into cases of missing people in France, Greece and Spain and saw her appeal in the Times of Malta last month.
Mr Owens has been looking for Mr Stewart for this past week, and believes that if still alive, he could be staying in some abandoned building.
He has also searched rural areas, beaches and caves.
“I urge people who own abandoned buildings, or some room in a field, to please go take a look inside,” he said. Ms Stewart added: “All I want is an answer. I need some closure.”
“I will be going to the UK for some weeks in July to visit family and friends, and if he comes back home, I will take him with me. If he is alive and is reading this, or if somebody who knows him reads this, pass on the message that he will be safe if he returns home,” she said.
