The government has announced a colorectal screening programme, which will be based on the breast screening programme.

The announcement was made in the Budget speech by Finance Minister Tonio Fenech.

He said work would continue next year on the Oncology Centre, with an investment of €59.6 million. The government also plans to strengthen the Pharmacy of Your Choice scheme and modernise a number of health centres.

In mental care, the community care service will be extended wth a day care centre in Gzira. An increased number of apartments will also be allocated for the supportive housing scheme, used by a number of patients who are released from Mt Carmel Hospital and have nowhere to live.

in all, Mr Fenech said, the government will next year spend €416 million on health next year, €37.6m more than this year.
