A collective art exhibition was recently organised at Gallery Couvre Porte, Vittoriosa, featuring artworks by staff members from St Margaret College, a network of 10 schools including over 400 teachers and 3,000 pupils in Senglea, Cospicua, Vittoriosa, Żabbar, Kalkara and Xgħajra.

The participating artists were Bernard Attard, Keith Balzan, Dione Borg, Olivianne Caruana, Charlot Cassar, Raymond Darmanin, Sherryanne Gauci, Raymond Gialanze, Carmen Gouder, Tony Scerri, Fiorella Zammit and Jude Zammit.

The exhibition, entitled 'Lifelong learning through art', featured a broad spectrum of themes, styles and media, ranging from landscape to portraits, cubist to impressionistic, oils to ceramics.

Throughout the exhibition, the artists also held a series of workshops focusing on various aspects of the collection, and the students were able to speak to and discuss issues with the artists at first hand.

The college believes that art education should go well beyond the confines of the classroom and the exhibition aimed to bridge the gap between 'high art' and the schoolchildren by making works of art more accessible to pupils of all ages, from both within the college and other schools.
