Rare, old and historical stamps, hobby models and even Panini football albums were all on display at the Casino Maltese in Valletta this week for a philately exhibition with a difference.

The Maltex Philatelic Exhibition and Collectors’ Fair, which opened on October 10 and came to an end yesterday, featured a number of enthusiasts and local organisations displaying their stamps, literature, historical artefacts and other collector’s items. Local and international collectors showcased an array of philatelic themes, from nature to historical events.

This year’s edition, for the first time under the auspices of MaltaPost, also showcased various collector’s items beyond philately, including maps, historical artefacts, sports memorabilia and works of art and literature from local book publishers and organisations.

The Philatelic Bureau issued an occasion card and a personalised stamp and cover for the event. Collectors could pick up the card in mint and cancelled condition at the fair, which also featured a temporary letterbox service, with posted cards and other mail stamped with a special Maltex handstamp.

Orders may still be placed online for the personalised stamp or cover and the personalised handstamp at www.maltaphilately.com or by mail to the Philatelic Bureau, MaltaPost p.l.c. 305, Qormi Road, Marsa, MTP 1001. For more information contact info@maltaphilately.com or call 2596 1740.
