The Association of Lyceum Past Students (ALPS) has started collecting contributions from students in state, Church and private schools for its current philanthropic project called Pitazz u Lapis jew Ġugarell.

The items collected will be handed over to the Malta Mission Fund.

The project is being directed by Nazareno Azzopardi, chairman of the ALPS philanthropic commission, who said that the first project had yielded thousands of exercise books and pencils.

"The toy in this year's project has been thrown in for good measure following comments by many contributors after the first project," he added. "It is well known that over Yuletide, many children get toys as presents, and sowing in them the thought of giving something they like to children who are less fortunate, could do a lot of good for the development of their character."

Heads of school taking part in the project are being asked to contact Dr Azzopardi to arrange an appointment for the students' contributions to be collected. Dr Azzopardi may be contacted on 2143 6041, 9944 4129 or at drnazare@maltanet.net.
