Malta’s soon-to-be President, Marie-Louise Coleiro Preca, is defending her decision to open a residence and an office in Gozo as a way of ensuring Gozitans’ needs are heard.

“I want to give more visibility to Gozo and I want to give easy accessibility [to the President’s office] to the Gozitans,” said Ms Coleiro Preca.

The plan, she said, was to convert an abandoned house in San Lawrenz into a residence that would mainly be used to hold meetings and organise events connected with the presidency. She said there will have modest living quarters which would mean she would not have to rent a hotel room if she had to spend a night in Gozo.

She also plans to open a one-room office in Victoria.
