A Coeliac Products Voucher Scheme will be introduced in the coming weeks, whereby people suffering from Coeliac disease will be given a voucher to be collected from local councils redeemable against gluten free products.

The scheme was discussed today at a meeting between Parliamentary Secretary for Health Chris Fearne and the Malta Coeliac Association.

Mr Fearne said that patients entitled for the Coeliac products under the schedule 5 condition who hold the ‘Kartanzjan’ or are entitled to the pink card will be eligible for a voucher of a higher value.

There are about 50 outlets across Malta and Gozo that have already shown interest to participate in this new scheme and this number is set to increase in the coming months.

“Through this new scheme patients will benefit from a wider choice of gluten-free products from any of the participating outlets”, said Mr Fearne.
