A man who had six cars registered on his name failed to convince the court he did not have enough money to buy his own drugs and was not a drug trafficker.

Stephen Borg, 37, was found guilty of dealing in cocaine from his Birkirkara home in 2009 and spearheading a drug trafficking ring. He was jailed for six years.

Police Inspectors Robert Vella and Elton Taliana told the court they had received a tipoff in 2009 about unusual activities at the house. In a police raid, drug paraphernalia were found, including tin foil, pipes and a set of digital scales in the bathroom.

The police also found €3,500 in cash as well as a book with names and numbers. They arraigned a man who pleaded guilty to purchasing drugs from Mr Borg.

Magistrate Miriam Hayman said it was evident that large-scale trafficking was taking place at the house.

She did not believe Mr Borg, especially when he said he was poor, since he had six cars registered on his name. She, therefore, jailed him for six years and fined him €8,000.
