Running partners Trudy Kerr and Deborah Gatt are inviting people to take part in ‘Run the #WaveofChange’, a long-distance coastal marathon aimed at collecting plastic waste that would otherwise have polluted the sea.

Participants may be involved either as runners in any of the seven stages of the 126-kilometre coastal running route or as part of eight clean-up teams already organised across the island. Runners, running groups, staff of companies or corporations or members of the public are all welcome to join the teams.

The event starts at Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq on Saturday at 6pm, and ends at around 4pm on Sunday.

There is no fee, and participants are being asked to collect at least three pieces of rubbish, take photos of them and post them on social media using the hashtag #WaveOfChange.

Runners must apply in advance due to limited places via the initiative’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/runthewaveofchange.
