The announced street protests against the water and electricity tariffs were just spokes in the wheel to hinder the agreements reached between the social partners and the government during budget meetings, the Confederation of Malta Trade Unions said.

The CMTU said that it would adhere to the pacts it made during these meetings.

It said another union opted not to discuss to the detriment of dialogue and the misfortune of workers who expected solutions from a union which believed it could decide what was urgent and what was not.

The confederation said that together with its affiliates it would continue working to find the necessary solutions to give the people a future of opportunities which aspired great ambitions.
