A dust cloud enveloped Malta today, significantly reducing visibility.

The dust was blown towards Malta from North Africa by a strong south-westerly wind, which, the Met Office said, is expected to get stronger during the night.

Flight operations at Malta International Airport were not affected, and an Austrian  Airlines flight to Tripoli was diverted to Malta because of a sand storm there.
