Two cloistered nuns at St Ursola Monastery in Valletta got an unusual visit last week when the Australian High Commissioner called to see them.

Siblings Sr Christine and St Lillian Borg were both born in Australia and returned to Malta in 1980 when they were three and nine years old respectively. Their parents had emigrated as children and met and married in Australia.

The High Commissioner, Anne Quinane, learnt about the nuns when she met their mother during Mass to celebrate the canonisation of Australian saint, Mary Helen MacKillop.

The nuns and their parents showed the High Commissioner pictures of their life in Australia, where they still have relatives, including two aged 92 and 97.

The High Commissioner also met another two nuns who have brothers and sisters in Australia.

She was accompanied by Mgr Philip Calleja, director of the Emigrants' Commission.
