St George's 6
St Patrick 1

Anthony Ewurun netted a hat-trick as St George's found little difficulty in disposing of a poor St Patrick side at the Tedesco Stadium yesterday.

St George's took only three minutes to forge ahead when Ewurun pounced on a poor Luke Sciberras back-pass, and after sprinting inside the box drove the ball home.

Ewurum almost struck again minutes later when he received a good ball from Silvio Sciberras but his shot was blocked by Sean Mintoff.

On 24 minutes, St George's were awarded a penalty after Josef Dalli was floored in the area by Juergen Farrugia but Glenn Bonello had his shot saved by Mintoff.

St George's doubled their lead on 29 minutes when Ewurum served Dalli who fired home.

The Cottonera side continued to dominate and scored a third in the 40th minute when Ewurun shot past Mintoff.

It was 4-0 on 51 minutes when Ewurun and Sciberras exchanged the ball with some good movement, the latter found Bonello who came from the blind side to hammer the ball home.

St Patrick pulled a goal back on 67 minutes when Daniel Milovanovic lobbed the ball over keeper Thomas Galea.

On 77 minutes, St George's made it 5-1 when Ewurun concluded a quick break when tapping the ball home.

St George's wrapped up the points nine minutes from time when Ewurun turned provider when he served Dalli who nodded the ball home.

Melita 1
Pietà Hotspurs 0

Melita piled the pressure on Pietà after beating them 1-0 yesterday to leave the Hotspurs bottom of the standings.

For Martin Gregory's Amateurs this was their third win of the season and on this form they should reach their prime objective of staying in the division after winning promotion last season.

After only a minute an Ives Bilocca inswinging corner nearly deceived Pietà keeper Miguel Montfort but he recovered quickly and cleared.

Pietà's response arrived on six minutes when debutant striker Olalekan Junior Alabi showed his mettle with his fast pace but his drive from just inside the box was well neutralised by Karl Zahra.

Melita were still playing the better football and on 23 minutes Nigel Rizzo dribbled past two defenders to shoot inches wide.

Pietà missed another sitter on 35 minutes when Zahra made a mess of a shortball intended for George Gribbon, Micallef stole possession but drove the ball wide.

Melita struck on 56 minutes when Rizzo served Nicolò Baldacchino who tapped home from close in.

Pietà were unlucky not to equalise on 72 minutes when from a Refalo free-kick, a melee ensued in the area with Melita's Matthew Borg clearing the ball off the line.
