Two international races, involving drivers from the racecourses of Marsa and Aby, in Sweden, were the main attractions in yesterday's 13th meeting of the season.

The other events included a race from the Premier class, one Gold, three Silver, one Bronze and one Copper. All trotting races were on the 2,140m distance. The card also included a flat race for ponies on 1,250m.

Swedish lady driver Mimi Elfstrand, with Hawkear, was a comfortable five-length winner in the first Malta-Aby race thanks to a strong dash along the last 200m.

Leo Gratens (George Attard) was second and Resolvs Stranden (Joe Muscat) third.

David Galea drove Alpha De Cosse to victory in the other international race.

Alpha De Cosse passed the post a clear four lengths ahead of second horse in Socrates (Bo Falsic) after taking the lead at the beginning of the final straight.

Third was Don Valentino (Shaun Formosa).

The Premier event was an interesting race from start to finish. Midway through the straight for home it was First (Clint Vassallo) that jumped into the lead to win by three lengths ahead of Ludo Du Parc and third-placed Ker Pellois.

The Gold race had quite an exciting finish involving six trotters. The finishing line was eventually reached first by Kandy Du Fruitier (Noel Baldacchino) with Syllabub entering a close second followed by Kalifant De Jemma.

The next meeting at Marsa is scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m.
