Malta’s foremost young drama troupe Teatru Manoel Youth Theatre is presenting Lord of the Flies by Nobel Prize winner William Golding at the Manoel Theatre this weekend.
The classic novel, a potent allegory about the loss of innocence and the decline of civilisation, is brought to dramatic life in Nigel Williams’s adaptation.
A plane crashes on a deserted island. The only survivors are a group of young adults. By day, it’s a tropical paradise of sun and sea; but each night, their dreams are inhabited by a terrifying beast.
From the comforts of their suburban lives, this well-behaved group turns into a blood-thirsty and murderous tribe. Myth and naturalism combine in a dynamic exploration of power, democracy, and the struggle between the good and evil within us all.
The cast is made up of Kyle Borg, Eliza Aquilina, Sarah Amato, Clayton Mallia, Alexia Manduca, Aleksa Andrejavic, Clara Agius, Leah Rianne Muscat, Greta Grech, Martha Maria Mangiani, Joy Decelis, Stephen Grech, Amy Grech, Neil Grima, Annika Cachia, Nicole Portelli, Roberta Cefai, and Daniel Hintner. Lord of the Flies is directed by Ian Moore.
Lord of the Flies is being staged at the Manoel Theatre today at 10am and 7pm, and tomorrow and on Sunday at 3 and 7pm.
