A rally of Opel classic cars will be held on Sunday as part of the activities being held to mark the 25th anniversary of the brand's presence in Malta.
The rally is being organised by United Automobile Limited, representatives of Opel in Malta, in collaboration with the Old Motors Club Malta.
Car owners wishing to participate will assemble at 8 a.m. near the Opel Showroom in Ta Xbiex. The drive, kicking off at 9 a.m., heads north passing through the Sliema Front, on to the Coast Road and to Golden Bay. There will be a short stop near the Domus Romana in Rabat. The rally will then proceed via Żebbuġ to Siġġiewi and onto the Blue Gotto in Żurrieq. After another brief stop, the rally drives back to Ta' Xbiex via Marsa and Msida.
Vintage and classic Opels are likely to include 1960s Rekords, one of which is a caravan; 1960s Cadets, including a coupé; 1950s Kapitans; Vauxhalls Viva; 1934 Vauxhall DX; 1933 Vauxhall BXL; 1948 Vauxhall 14; 1948 Vauxhall 12; 1952 Vauxhall Wyvern & 1959 Vauxhall Cresta, a spokesman for the promoters said.
The new Opel range will be on display.
Ryan Buttigieg, sales and marketing manager at United Automobile, said the rally will be a celebration of the interesting models that Opel manufactured over the years and "which are so jealously nurtured by owners and collectors in Malta".
Opel owners who wish to participate in the rally can turn up on the day or call 2132 0560/1/2 for more information.
