J. Bonett Balzan's letter (The Sunday Times, November 22) has created confusion in Balluta . We are quite certain that the square which falls under the jurisdiction of St Julian's council is in a very good state.

There are no potted plants and the three establishments to whom the chairs and tables belong make it a point that these do not obstruct passage, are always in good order, in the right area allocated and according to the number quoted by the authorities concerned. The square only has benches and trees and is well lit.

It seems that Mr Bonett Balzan is referring to a completely different area. This area is in Tower Road, Sliema, behind the Carmelite church and very near to the Carmelite convent. This area (which used to be a small square), as Mr Bonnet Balzan states, is now occupied by two catering establishments and two hotels and a number of potted plants.

This area falls under the Sliema council's responsibility.

We are writing to clarify the matter.
