A non-partisan protest calling for the resignation of Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi and the Prime Minister's chief of staff Keith Schembri will be held outside parliament early next month.

The protest is being organised by the Civil Society Network in the wake of the Panama scandal.

Both Dr Mizzi and Mr Schembri have admitted to setting up a trust in New Zealand and a company in Panama.

The Panama Papers leaks have also revealed that Dr Mizzi and Mr Schembri had twice tried to open bank accounts in Dubai and Panama.

Prime Minister Joseph Muscat told the PL's general meeting on Sunday that action would be taken, but only after an audit of Dr Mizzi's financial affairs was concluded.

In his maiden speech as party deputy leader on Thursday, Dr Mizzi passed the buck about his future to the Prime Minister saying he would accept any decision in his regard.

Both Dr Mizzi and Mr Schembri have so far refused to resign, insisting they did not do anything wrong.
