The Civil Protection Association is finalising a new statute to enable it to apply for union status in the coming weeks, it said in a statement.

The association said it had been calling for civil protection employees to be given the right to join a union since 2003.

Last year, it embarked on the process to become an autonomous union after 91.7 per cent of members representing 67.2 per cent of civil protection employees voted for this.

The association encouraged all civil protection employees to become its members.

It promised to continue to work in the best interests of all its members.
