Valletta cruised into the semi-finals of the U*Bet FA Trophy after they saw off Mosta 3-1 at the Hibs Stadium today.

The Citizens took just three minutes to break the stalemate. Wingback Saidon Mady Panandetiguiri picked Aleksanders Cekulajevs inside the area and the Latvian striker beat Mosta goalkeeper Glenn Zammit with an exquisite lob.

Valletta doubled their lead on 25 minutes when Cekulajevs anticipated Mosta goalkeeper Zammit before crashing down to the floor with the referee immediately pointing to the spot. From the ensuing penalty, Michael Mifsud rammed the ball past Zammit.

Mosta were handed a lifeline on 43 minutes. Kibona centred the ball inside the area but Caruana and Hogg failed to clear the danger and in came Obiefule who cooly slotted the ball past Hogg.

However, it was Valletta who all but sealed the match on 72 minutes when Denni evaded the attention of two Mosta defenders before sending a low pass towards Cekulajevs who diverted the ball into the net.
