Aaron Ciantar, the golden boy of the P1 World Championship, has praised the depth of the SuperSport division after securing the title for a second year in succession.

Having won the championship last year as part of Conam Yachts, Ciantar believes this title with Ukraine entry Seagull Chaudron is more noteworthy given the fact the competition was so much greater than 2008 when the Maltese pilot and Angelo Tedeschi took the trophy with rounds to spare.

"The highlight of the season for me was probably winning in Malta," Ciantar, whose team pipped Baia Attolini to the title by just 20 points, told the P1 official website.

"However, it has been great battling with Baia all season. They have been very strong and provided us with great competition.

"This year, teams changed their props to make improvements and really challenged us.

"For me, the championship was better this year.

"Last year it was easy as no teams attempted to improve their boat as they could not beat us."

Despite the emergence as a genuine threat to their title after winning the last four races of the year, Ciantar, 28, refused to single out SW1 Capital as potential heirs to their throne, preferring to focus on all of the teams in SuperSport.

"Yes, we will look out for them. Team SW1 Capital did very well," he said.

"But if you look at the timings then it is very close - we have to pay attention to everybody.

"In Sunday's race it was important that we did not take any risks. We wanted to be in a good position from the beginning and that meant we had to work for a good start. When we found ourselves second then we wanted to take that position. If you spin and make a small mistake then you pay for it and a whole season is wasted."

And the plans for Ciantar and his team next year?

"I am so very happy as I am the boat manufacturer and the driver. The Ukrainian investors made a good choice to work with us.

"Next season? We just want to enjoy ourselves as there has been lots of pressure this year. I cannot even begin to think of next year just yet."
