The Church’s Commission for the Safeguarding of Children and Vulnerable Adults recently referred a case of suspected clerical abuse to police, according to sources.

The news comes after the media reported that a priest is due to be taken to court to face child abuse allegations.

The commission issued a statement yesterday saying it takes action in all cases where there is a risk of harm to children or vulnerable adults, but it declined to provide any details.

It said it could be contacted in confidence by e-mail (safeguarding@maltadiocese.org) by anyone who has concerns over potential abuse of children or vulnerable adults.
