Reading the comments contained in the editorial on the document entitled The Digital Face Of The Church (May 2) one might get the impression that it has been decided not to present the proposals also for public consultation. This is absolutely not the case.

The document's vision regarding the Church and the media is being discussed by the various interested bodies within the Church itself. This is being done according to a pre-planned procedure decided by Church authorities.

As the dialogue goes on, various new ideas, possibilities and alternatives are being identified and considered along with those included in the vision presented in the document.

Following these consultations, the updated document will be published and the public will be able to offer its views on it.

The editorial comment states that the statement issued by the Curia Press Office on April 14 regarding the document "was simply a compilation of alternative ideas". What the Press Office statement actually said was that the proposals and the alternative ideas included in the report are still at the discussion and consultation stage.

Editor's note: The announcement that an "updated document" will be published is welcome even if there should be no reason why the original study was not released too. Also one augurs that the "updated documented" will be published sooner rather than later. For the record, The Times editorial did not say "that the statement issued by the Curia Press Office on April 14 regarding the document 'was simply a compilation of alternative ideas'." What the editorial did say was: "It (the Curia) also added that the document was simply a compilation of alternative ideas and that nothing had yet been decided about it".
