Christophe Honoré’s film, Les Bien-aimes (The Beloved) is to close the Cannes Film Festival on May 22 after Robert De Niro and his jury attribute the awards, organisers said.
Mr Honore, 40, took part in the Cannes competition in 2007 with his Les Chansons d’amour and will this year attend the screening of his new film out of competition along with the cast, including Catherine Deneuve.
The film recreates the worlds of “Prague in the 60s, London in the 80s, the world of September 11 and Paris of today in a singular, melancholy and romantic work of art,” organisers said.
