The University of Malta will temporarily close its doors next month during the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting.

Internal university correspondence, seen by this newspaper, said the campus would be closed between November 27 and 29 for “national security reasons”.

The correspondence, sent to all university staff by Rector Juanito Camilleri, said that campus activities would be minimised.

All faculties, the library and car park 6 would be closed. Lecture facilities at Mater Dei Hospital will also be closed, as will the junior college campus.

University and junior college students are not the only ones getting a day off. Schoolchildren might not know what CHOGM stands for, but they will soon like the sound of it, as November 27 has been declared a school holiday to mark the event.
