A Chinese delegation led by the chair of Peking University's council met with representatives of Malta's two major political parties on Monday afternoon.

Prof. Hao Ping, who previously served as China's vice-minister for Education, is currently touring Europe to meet with politicians and discuss the conclusions reached during the Communist Party's 19th national congress, held last October.

The delegation met with Labour Party deputy leader Chris Cardona as well as with Nationalist Party leader Adrian Delia.

Dr Cardona highlighted economic and social ties between the two nations and remarked that collaboration had spread to various sectors, despite the differences in size between the two countries.

Dr Delia also highlighted areas of cooperation between Malta and China and told Prof. Ping that the PN saw China as a global economic giant with a modern society. He thanked China for its work in contributing to world peace and global stability.

The Chinese delegation led by Prof. Ping also included western Europe affairs bureau director-general Zhao Fei, Peking University international cooperation department chief Zia Hongwei, first secretary Jin Dalong, third secretarys Li Xiaoxiao and Shi Meiqi as well as Chinese Embassy representatives Zhang Yiqi and Minchuan Dong.
