A public exhibition of children's drawings on the themes 'Our grandparents' and 'That older person in my street' will be opened on Thursday at 5.30 p.m. at St Vincent de Paul Residence for the Care of the Elderly, Luqa, by Mario Galea, Parliamentary Secretary for the Elderly and Care in the Community. The young children's innocent creativity immersed in St Vincent's timeless ambience is an illustration of much needed inter-generational solidarity in today's fast changing world.

The drawings were submitted by around 200 children in Years 1 to 6 from state, Church and private schools for a competition organised by the Maltese Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics. The exhibition will remain open until April 24, and book tokens will be awarded to the best presentations, which will be announced on the last day of the exhibition at 5.30 p.m. by a panel that includes Frans Borg, Raymond Pitrè and Victor Debarro.

The Maltese Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics is an academic organisation based at the University of Malta that strives to promote a holistic study and better awareness of issues concerning older people. The competition is the first of three activities the association is organising to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Forthcoming events comprise an essay competition for secondary school students and an open photography competition, with the older person as the central theme.
