The Labour Party has called for the children’s court procedures to start being held at the Family Court.

Labour’s Justice spokesman Jose Herrera said in a statement that these sittings were currently held at the Centru Hidma Socijali in Sta Venera, which was not well equipped and where the accused did not feel they were in court so they did not take the proceedings seriously.

The place also lacked a waiting room and since it was considerably distant from the courts, an inconvenience was created for those who required legal assistance and for magistrates.

Such sittings, he said, should start being held within the Family Court, where they used to be held by the previous magistrate.
