A total of 120 fresh chickens were seized from a food hawker yesterday because they were being kept in a van at 'improper' temperatures and because their origin was wrongly labeled.

The action was taken following an inspection by the Health Inspectorate Services within the Department for Environmental Health in Zabbar. The van involved belongs to a hawker who is known to the Department for Environmental Health in view of previous transgressions. The department will be taking legal action against the offender, while investigations to trace the source are ongoing.

The department urged the public to only purchase products which are kept in hygienic conditions and which are supplied by reliable sources.
