Travelling to Gozo at the weekend this month will be significantly cheaper thanks to special fares announced yesterday.

Gozo Minister Anton Refalo said the scheme was part of a series of measures being implemented to attract tourists to Gozo all year round.

As of tomorrow, passengers will pay €1.20 instead of the usual €4.65, while those crossing the channel with their car will pay €8.20 instead of €15.70.

Those on bicycles and motorcycles will also benefit from cheaper prices.

The scheme does not apply to commercial vehicles.

Passengers will pay €1.20 instead of the usual €4.65

The lower fares will be effective between the first trip on Saturdays and the 4.30pm trip on Sundays.

Both the Gozo Business Chamber and the Gozo Tourism Association supported the scheme aimed at improving Gozo’s economy during the slow winter months, Dr Refalo said.

A similar scheme called Għawdex Jaqbillek Dejjem had been introduced in the first part of last month.

The Gozo Tourism Association last year urged Gozo Channel to offer low, mid- and high-season fares to boost the number of visitors throughout the year.
