A “Travel to Gozo Weekend-Valentine Special” initiative was announced by Gozo Minister Anton Refalo this morning.

The initiative, being undertaken in collaboration with the Bank of Valletta and with the support of Gozo Channel, Gozo Tourism Association and the Gozo Business Chamber, will see Gozo Channel fares lowered by almost 50 per cent between February 14 and 16.

Passenger fares will go down from €4.65 to €1.50, those for non-commercial vehicles from €15.70 to €8.50.

These reductions will apply to all journeys between February 14 from 7.15pm to February 17 at 1.30am.

Gozo Channel chairman Joe Cordina said the company will operate according to demand and will run a shuttle service if necessary.

He said Gozo Channel had been able to reduce losses by €600,000 without affecting the service. Last year, Gozo Channel vessels carried 118,500 passengers and 43,500 vehicles more than in 2012, he said.

Gozo Tourism Association chief executive officer Joe Muscat and Gozo Business Chamber managing director Michael Grech said that during the weekend, 38 tourist establishments would have various special offers.
