Richard Cuschieri 39 of Hamrun was charged in court today with having made five bomb hoaxes against the law courts between March and June.

The man phoned the police on March 16 and 26, April 19, May 31 May and June 18. He was due to appear in court in all those days as he has several pending civil and criminal cases.

Cuschieri was accused of lodging false reports to the police and causing fear.

He was remanded in custody after the prosecution explained that although it did not fear tampering with the evidence - since it is all technical - it feared a repetition of this crime.

Magistrate Karol Peralta said such cases had become far too frequent and days of court time were being lost as a result.
