A woman was charged with stabbing her stepmother during an argument in St Paul’s Bay last Thursday.

Ramona Vassallo, 38, pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring Irina Alekseevna Vassallo when she stabbed her hand with a knife.

Ms Vassallo also pleaded not guilty to being in possession of a knife without a licence, breaching the peace and committing a crime during the operative period of a suspended sentence. The woman was remanded in custody.

In a separate arraignment, an 18-year-old man and a 17-year-old boy were both given a conditional discharge.

The youth pleaded guilty to stealing a bag from Exiles beach in Sliema on Thursday afternoon.

The man, from Siġġiewi, pleaded guilty to handling stolen items when he bought an iPhone and a mobile drive that had been stolen on Thursday.

Both men pleaded guilty and said they had returned the stolen items.

The two cannot be identified after the court issued a ban on their names.
