A man who allegedly stole everything from fire extinguishers to birds was yesterday remanded in custody after pleading not guilty to the charges.

Tony Abela, 39, of Qormi denied stealing the items from three cars and two houses between October 23 and 30. Among the items he is charged with stealing are two cans of paint, two car batteries, three fire extinguishers, two stereos, a pair of shoes, two horse saddles and a cage of birds.

Magistrate Jacqueline Pado­vani remanded him in custody after reviewing his criminal record which dates back eight years.

Police Inspector Spiridione Zammit prosecuted.
