A 51-year-old driver was charged with mowing down four Dutch students on Monday evening along the Coast Road in Baħar iċ-Ċagħaq.

Martin Micallef of Msida pleaded not guilty to seriously injuring one of the students through dangerous driving and slightly injuring the others in the same incident. He also denied driving dangerously.

Magistrate Antonio Micallef Trigona granted the accused bail against a personal guarantee of €5,000.

The accident happened at about 8.40 p.m. Abraham Petrus Beers broke his arm while Wephste Bart, Jum Sligtilg and Brinkhof Jocanda were slightly hurt.

With the force of the impact, two of the students were thrown a few metres and fell a height of one storey onto trees lying below street level.
