A 35-year-old man yesterday pleaded not guilty to defiling his daughter when she was nine years old.

He appeared before Magistrate Myriam Hayman who ordered a ban on the publication of all details to protect the identity of the family.

The girl, now 17, only spoke out about the case recently. Magistrate Hayman said she would not consider granting bail until the girl testified.

Police Inspector Louise Calleja prosecuted.

Lawyer Joseph Brincat app-eared for the man.
