Malta champion driver Charles Degiorgio will be taking part in this week's European Championship for professional drivers organised by the International Trotting Union at the San Pardo racetrack in Palma de Mallorca, Spain.

The meeting, on Thursday and Friday, will see the participation of the continent's top 14 drivers last season among whom Jean Michel Bazire.

This year, Frenchman Bazire was the winning Prix d'Amerique driver with Kesaco Phedo at Paris's Vincennes racetrack.

Degiorgio's participation in the European Championship was made possible thanks to the Malta Racing Club's strategy of assisting local drivers and helping them as much as possible to gain more experience on the international scene.

The other drivers in competition are: Gerhard Mayr (Austria), Christophe Martens (Belgium), Volf Mykola (Czech Republic), Seppo Kukkonen (Denmark), Esa Holopainen (Finland), Heinz Wewering (Germany), Enrico Bellei (Italy), Ruud Polls (Holland), Lars Anvar Kolle (Norway), Juan Antonio Riera Rossello (Spain), Erik Adielsson (Sweden) and Renaud Pujol (Switzerland).
