Joseph Cuschieri, an accountant specialised in management accounting and finance, has been appointed executive chairman of the Lotteries and Gaming Authority (LGA).

The announcement was made by Edward Zammit Lewis, Parliamentary Secretary for competitiveness.

The appointment follows the resignation of Mario Galea, the former chairman, and Reuben Portanier, the former CEO.

Mr Cuschieri’s last position was as chief commercial officer at Vodafone Malta.

He was also senior consultant at Ernst & Young and previously served as chief operating officer at the Malta Communications Authority.

The government said Mr Cuschieri will focus on reforming the LGA to make it more efficient and dynamic.
