A woman was sentenced to three years and four months in jail after she admitted to breaking into several cars and stealing a number of items including a chainsaw and cash over the past month.

Sandra Grixti, 27, from Żurrieq, pleaded guilty to stealing the chainsaw from a car parked in Kalkara on June 24 and taking perfume and other items from Lola Perfumery in Żabbar on July 3.

She also admitted to stealing a pouch containing €10 and other items from a car parked in Żurrieq and €24 from a vehicle in Fgura on July 6 and 24, respectively.

She was charged with committing the crimes during the operative period of two suspended jail terms: one was an 18-month jail term suspended for three years and the other a nine-month jail term suspended for two-and-a-half years.

Magistrate Claire Stafrace Zammit recommended that Ms Grixti is given the opportunity to overcome her drug addiction problem while serving time.

Police Inspectors James Grech and Charlotte Curmi prosecuted.
