A series of trips by former Malta International Airport chief executive Markus Klaushofer prior to his dismissal had raised “suspicions” a tribunal heard yesterday.

The Austrian national – who was sacked in January last year after three years at the helm – has opened proceedings before the industrial tribunal claiming unfair dismissal. Mr Klaushofer is vehemently denying leaking sensitive company information.

During yesterday’s sitting, former MIA chief financial officer Austin Calleja testified that on one occasion Mr Klaushofer was in Paris and requested from him the company’s 10-year business plan.

Though this was sent to him by e-mail, the witness said he was not given an explanation for this request. Mr Calleja also expressed doubts about a number of other trips which, in his opinion, were made for no valid reason.

Ron Galea Cavallazzi is representing MIA while lawyer Cedric Mifsud is appearing for Mr Klaushofer.
