Pawla Scicluna of Victoria turned 100 last Sunday. To mark the occasion, Bishop Nikol Cauchi concelebrated Mass with her nephew Mgr Joseph Bezzina and other priests at the Gozo Cathedral, where she attended Mass for well over 90 years.

Later in the evening she received a surprise visit from Prime Minister Laurence Gonzi and his wife Kate, who gave her a silver tray as a memento.

Ms Scicluna told Dr Gonzi she was a strong lady when she used to work in the fields and joked about thinking of going back in order to regain her strength.

She lived independently until she was 97, but now she is cared for by the Dominican Sisters at Sta Domenica Home, Victoria.
