Last month, Celtic sealed their fourth Scottish Premiership crown in a row.

A 5-0 victory over Dundee at Celtic Park on May 1 coupled with Aberdeen’s 1-0 defeat at Tannadice ensured that the Hoops retained the title with three games to spare.

This was the first league success for Norwegian manager Ronny Deila in his debut season in charge at Celtic Park.

Traditional rivals Rangers – the only other Premiership winners in Scotland since 1985 – will again play outside the top flight next season after failing to go through the Championship promotion play-offs.

Rangers were beaten 6-1 on aggregate by Motherwell in the final. Motherwell had finished 11th in the 12-team top-flight.

That another two of Scotland’s biggest clubs, Hearts and Hibernian, didn’t compete in the top league last season is, of course, not the fault of Celtic.

Runners-up Aberdeen showed improvement but the Hoops won all three meetings against Derek McInnes’s side.

Deila’s first trophy success as Parkhead manager came in March with a 2-0 win over Dundee United in the League Cup final, following an easy 2-0 win over Rangers in the semis.

Celtic’s hopes of claiming a domestic treble ended in controversy last month when they were beaten 3-2 by Inverness in the Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden Park.

The silverware was won by Inverness who beat Falkirk 2-1 in the final.

Aberdeen and Inverness, third in the league, will play in the Europa League next season.

Falkirk’s loss to Inverness in the cup final handed Scotland’s final European place to St Johnstone, who finished fourth in the final standings.
