Well done to Valletta, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich on winning their championships.
As expected, Valletta won against Floriana yesterday to celebrate their return to the top rung of Maltese football in style, although their top status was assured the day before when Marsaxlokk lost to Birkirkara.
It has been a remarkable season for Valletta, who amongst other victories, even managed to beat Juventus during their winter training camp in Malta. But celebrating the title in the derby was something incredible for any supporter of the City.
Inter, or their fans, would also have loved to get the arithmetic confirmation of their title in the derby against Milan. However, a great performance by Milan denied Inter from securing their league title. With two games to go, Inter will probably make sure of their title next week. But they will have to play much better.
Kaká, the Pope, and
Ronaldo
The Vatican said it was happy that the Pope wasn't one of the 100 most influential people as classified by Time Magazine as it did not agree with the way how the classification was made.. The Vatican's paper, however criticised Time Magazine, for excluding Benedict XVI from this list.
Yet one of my favourite footballers, Ricardo Kaká has made it to the top 100. His name is in the section for heroes and pioneers, together with Oscar Pistorius, Oprah Winfrey, Angelina Jolie, Mia Farrow, Andre Agassi, Lance Armstrong and Peter Armstrong, among others.
According to the compilers of the report, one of the positive things about Kaká was the fact that he never shied away from showing his faith in football stadiums by displaying the shirt ‘I belong to Jesus' after the most important Milan victories last year.
He adds that: "in an age in which many professional athletes care more about cars, women and controversy, it's refreshing to see someone who is committed to having a positive impact on the world around him".
Kaká is not the only one who is committed to have a positive impact. I know of others who have made it a priority in their life to make a difference (and to whom I will refer in later blog entries).
However, one can't underestimate the importance that these people (footballers) have on the way one lives and as such, the importance of good behaviour on and off the pitch. I guess Kaká should speak to his teammate Ronaldo about this.
Comebacks
Valentino Rossi is back. After a rather disappointing season, Rossi had a good race this weekend when he won the Chinese MotoGP.
Moto GP is much more fascinating than F1 as there is more room for overtaking and hence, more thrills and excitement.
But even more remarkable was Lorenzo's comeback. On Friday he had a nasty scare in an accident that might have had serious consequences. He suffered a broken angle. Contrary to what many expected he raced...to finish fourth. If Rossi's comeback to the highest step of the podium was news in itself, I believe that Lorenzo's comeback deserves more acclaim. Where there is a will, there is a way...a lesson for life not to give up.
